Used in diverse and changing situations like on motorways and in public buildings, dynamic signs are important for providing immediate, up-to-date and relevant information. In order to be effective, then, they need to be highly visible, safe and accessible to all. A new standard to ensure that they are has just been published.

ISO 23456-1, Dynamic signs in physical environments – Part 1: General requirements, provides internationally agreed specifications for the correct ergonomics of such signs, including visibility, visual image safety and accessibility.

The standard takes into account the changing nature of the sign with regard to its environment, such as illumination and density of people. Useful for both device manufacturers and content creators, the guidance provides a platform on which the technology for such signs can grow.
